- Update 01/22/2002 -
Here the first tapered bearing cone is placed on the pole
The holes are drilled into the outer collars
linning up and getting ready to cut the out collar tube, the level shows that the tube is nearly horizontal. I spent a good amount of time squaring the compound mitre saw blade as well.
Here another block, a vertical one, is added that is bolted to the base, adjusting this block changes the angle of the bar to be cut in relation to the back of the base, and placing it square to the blade.
Cutting the tube
Here is the cut tube and the cup on the cone of the tapered bearing.
Here is the collar resting atop the cup of the tapered bearing
The ensemble so far...
Here I am holding the blade at its lowest position and squaring the end of the tube against it. It was much easier and more accurate to square the blade of the saw then it was to square the tube againt the blade, thought I did my best, running it against the side of the blade worked well to square it up, and visually it looked to be less than a 2 - 3degree offset in the end of the tube off perpindicular.
Cutting the second collar.
The second collar cut and drilled.
